Measles

There have recently been a small number of confirmed measles cases in West Yorkshire.

Measles spreads easily and in rare cases can lead to serious illness including ear infections, pneumonia and inflammation of the brain which require hospital admission.

We are offering the MMR vaccination to children who have not previously received two doses of the vaccine.  Please ask reception to book an appointment with one of our Practices Nurses.

It is important that you are aware of the symptoms of measles.  These can include:

  • High fever
  • Sore, red, watery eyes
  • Coughing
  • Aching and feeling generally unwell
  • A blotchy red brown rash, which usually appears after the initial symptoms.

Anyone with symptoms that could be measles should stay at home and phone the surgery or NHS 111 for advice.  Please do not visit the surgery or A&E as measles spreads very quickly and so it is important to try and prevent the illness spreading further.

People with symptoms should also especially try to stay away from areas where you could come into contact with vulnerable people such as schools, nurseries or care homes
